Ruth Roman was born on June 22, 1939 at Lynn Massachusetts. She is the youngest child of Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. After her father died as a Carnival barker as an infant, she had to help keep the family going by working as a maid and server. Ruth was born in a poor neighborhood of Boston Massachusetts where she attended school. She quit the institution she was in just two years later in order to pursue acting as a profession. There were many hurdles to overcome on the path she chose to pursue. Then, in New York she was hired to take photos in a crime magazine however, no theatre opportunities were offered. Following a short stint as a club hat girl after which she decided to come back to her home in Massachusetts and leave her position. It was there that she made a buck as an usherette by in the daytime, while at night she performed with the New England Repertory Company. This was her very first acting job. She earned a bachelor's degree in drama from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
